Only an hour’s drive from Aqaba lies Wadi Rum. Wadi Rum is a vast timeless and hauntingly beautiful desert. Wadi Rum is the largest and most magnificent of Jordan’s deserts. Here you will find sand dunes that shimmer, exquisitely carved mountains raised out of the rose–red desert sand. The Wadi Rum today is a protected natural reserve.
Camping is available in Aqaba and in Wadi Rum travelers just need to bring their sleeping bags and pick a place - the desert, the beach, or the mountains.
Camel rides are a popular activity and short trips can be arranged on demand from Rum village and Disi village. Horseback tours are also available from both Rum and Disi villages.
For both camels and horses, operators offer long treks lasting from two to seven days, including overnight camping.
